We will not look at the first fraternal crash in the history of ATP

The Australian Open draw offered fans the ultimate opportunity to watch in 2018 the first ever ATP or Grand Slam tennis match between two brothers. This could have happened in a third round between Alexander and Mischa Zverevi.

World number 4 passed through his first obstacle in Melbourne - 6:1, 7:6 (5), 7:5 over Thomas Fabiano from Italy, but older brother Mischa gave up at 2:6, 1:4 (behind a break) against Hion Chun - winner of the first edition of the Finals of the next generation at the end of last year.

The reason for Mischa Zverev`s quit is complex - he did not train very much in the break between the two seasons because he suffered from a viral infection and from burning the skin on his left hand in the last two weeks. Because of the pains in the hand and the virus he did not train enough to start the new campaign and is therefore not in optimal physical form. Zverev started the Australian Open as the 35th in the world rank ings and the final analyzed by buy tennis picks 32nd in the main circuit, because Andy Murray and Kei Nishikori who are above him did not take part in the race. Unfortunately, however, he will drop out of the top 50 after the Grand Slam tournament, because he had to defend 360 points from reaching the quarterfinals in 2017 when on his way to eliminating the then World No. 1 Murray.
